When honeymooning in Hawaii

Hawaii was the ultimate destination for a foodie. Americans love their burgers and so do I. I did research before heading there to find the best places to eat and I wasn't disappointed.

Our first leg of the trip was in Maui. We stayed at the Kaanapali Beach Resort.

We dined at the Hula Grill, which had a barefoot bar on the beach. Our first dinner did not disappoint, which included a free serve of dessert!

The following evening, we went to a Luau at our hotel. The food was amazing. Lots of meat options, as well as the yummy suckling pig.

Suckling Pig.

You don't make friends with salad.
The following day we did a road trip to Hana. That evening we ate back at the restaurant at our hotel. Of course I ordered the dish that had chicken, beef and salmon on it.

Cool Cat Cafe claims to have the best burgers in Maui. So of course we had to head there. It was worth the trip (away from the hotel) but not all the way from Australia. Melbourne burgers are amazing. This burger was delicious, but average. However, I would easily eat it again. That is of course if I had room. It was a very filling burger.

Maui's best burgers

A MASSIVE burger list. It was difficult to make my decision.

Fries and onion rings

Cool Cat Cafe - Amended Bonanza - no cheese or dressing. With Avo.

My "get in my mouth" grin.

The following day we trecked up north. I had heard Acai bowls are huge in Hawaii, but they hadn't really taken off in Melbourne.  I tried one and I was hooked. I've been meaning to try out a few places back in Melbourne for their Acai Bowls, but then I just haven't got around to it yet.

Finally - REAL coffee.

Back at our hotel we had a voucher for their Tiki Bar for a Teriyaki burger. It doesn't look like much but it was quite tasty.

Nom nom nom

We finished our leg of our Maui trip and headed to Waikiki. We went to the Yard house for an early dinner during happy hour. Worth dropping in for happy hour. Incredibly cheap. I got denied alcohol because I didn't have my ID with me! The burger hit the spot, but of course it wasn't the best burger in town.

The next few trips consisted of shopping and the usual site seeing.  The outlets there are worth the trip. We picked up so many bargains.
Chilis for a mex bowl. It was tasty as!

Jimmy Buffett's for a burger. My hubby had this one and said it was delish. I giggle to myself about the single slice of tomato though.

I had the fish tacos. They were tasty, but not filling enough.
I heard all this hype over the following place, Eggs n things.  I was severely let down. The picture speaks for itself.  My hubby had the blueberry pancakes and was very happy with them. But this apparently is bacon, poached eggs and breakfast potato. I honestly didn't think Canadian Bacon was SPAM!
This is how NOT to serve bacon to an Australian.
Then we decided to do the Japanese tourist thing and line up for udon noodles at Marukame Udon. They hand make the udon noodles and you customise your udon dish. Ok, it was delish, as was the tempura. However, there is nothing worse then feeling like you're pushed back out the door. It was still worth the line up if you like Udon. Now when I remember everything about it, I feel like we should have been on the amazing race feeding each other udon as quickly as possible.

Then when in Waikiki, there is no shortage of Acai Bowls. It was a frequent dish for me while I was there.

The following evening, we went for an early dinner to the Cheesecake Factory. It seems most restaurants in Waikiki had queues by the time 6.30pm hit and they weren't short waits. The Cheesecake Factory is a must. The serves of food was MASSIVE. I posted a picture of a plate next to my hubby so you could see the size of it. The person next to us ordered a salad and it was even bigger. We just kept laughing at the insane size of them. We took doggie bags and even had a substantial meal for the next day.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to try any of their cheesecakes, but my husband said it was delicious.

The following day we visited Teddy's Bigger Burgers. They have different sizes and we didn't even go the biggest size. They were delicious and much better than Cool Cat Cafe.
I went the original and added Bacon, Avo and Pineapple. My hubby went for a special.

Special burger - "bigger" patty.

Original with extras.

This wasn't even a "bigger" burger.

Obligate Acai Bowl on the way back to the hotel.

The following day consisted at Cheese Burger in Paradise Restaurant for breakfast. Nothing compares to an Aussie Breakfast. They just can't pull it off. Bad coffee and bad bacon. The hash was pretty good though.

That evening we went to Dukes Restaurant/Bar for dinner. All you can eat salad bar. It was impressive..... until you realise how big your main meal also is.... then you see your complimentary dessert which was just impossible to eat,

Our final day was going to a local eatery, Hi Steaks, for some grilled meat. It was a great cheap recommendation. We finished our trip at PF Changs. My dish was lacking in flavour, but my hubby was very happy with his meal.

If your holiday is beach, shopping and food; then Hawaii is the place to go.
